Watercolour on paper
Frans De Leij
Frans is a self-taught watercolourist who loves to explore the mediums fluidity and directness to obtain paintings that are full of light and atmosphere. Being a biologist at heart, it is perhaps not surprising that nature provides him with the main inspiration for his work. In particular the way light, shade and atmospheric conditions unify objects within the landscape, are of particular interest to him. Furthermore, his paintings try to capture a feeling of space and tranquility often found in nature. In 2006 he was elected a member of the Sussex Watercolour Society. Over the years his paintings have gained rapidly in popularity and can be found in private and corporate collections in Britain and abroad.
"I believe that what makes a painting 'Art' is personal interpretation of a particular subject. Each painting therefore requires its own solutions to allow convincing expression of the particular qualities of light, complex shapes and colour vibrancy that were the inspiration for a particular painting in the first place."
